SUMMARY
The Concurrent
Enrollment & CTE Safety Specialist will function under the direction of the
Director of CTE to provide support and training to the CTE and Concurrent
Enrollment teachers in the Washington County School District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Regular attendance and timeliness is an
essential job function to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of
the position.
CONCURRENT
ENROLLMENT SPECIALIST responsibilities:
Identifies
and recruits new adjuncts teaching in our high schools.
Maximizes
new CE courses from the USOE/USHE list to be taught.
Provides support
for CE teachers and counselors through coordinated articulation with our
educational partners at USOE, USHE, DSU, SUU, and DXATC.
Coordinates
with teachers and counselors to maximize CE offerings.
Provides
information to students/parents on the benefits of CE.
Represents
the district at local, regional, and state conferences.
Develops a
teaching schedule for classes taught at the Education Center.
Provides support
to educational staff teaching concurrent enrollment courses related to the
common core and CTE.
SAFETY SPECIALIST responsibilities:
Must
have working knowledge of State Risk Management guidelines.
Delivers required
safety training for CTE teachers.
Provides
on-site safety inspections, to maximize safety compliance.
Coordinates
with CTE teachers on preventative maintenance records for CTE equipment to
lengthen equipment life- with accident prevention being the greatest benefit.
Provides training
for teachers on preventative measures and maintenance.
Attends
District and State Safety Committee meetings.
Develops
a replacement schedule for equipment and facility upgrades.
Coordinates
equipment blade sharpening for increased safety.
Assists
with asset and inventory management.
Assists with
gathering data related accidents and prevention.
Coordinates with
the maintenance department and/or contracted technicians for needed repairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and
Experience
A Master's degree in Education,
Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred AND a minimum of 5 years of
progressive teaching and/or leadership experience, including experience in prevention services,
youth development, working with at-risk youth, and project management. Positive working relationship with school systems and area community agencies.
Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of
the program principles and methodology is preferred. Working knowledge of the current
state of prevention science as regards to the development of internal and external assets
toward the strengthening of resiliency. Understanding of the theory
and practice
associated with risk and protective factor assessment, documentation, and
program matching based on data-driven solutions to substance abuse prevention. Knowledge of
district’s Life Skills model and
philosophy, curriculum
models, Prevention Dimension,
character education and service learning. Requisite skills
to teach prevention techniques. Effective
collaboration and coordination, as manifest in communication,
organization, motivation, and conflict
resolution capabilities. Skilled at data
collection and electronic data management. Competent in basic grant writing and
program reporting.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's
degree from four-year college or university.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,
REGISTRATIONS
Active Utah Secondary Teaching License required. An endorsement in the CTE field is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets professional
journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to
common inquiries or complaints from administration, the public, regulatory
agencies, or members of the business and school community. Ability to write speeches and articles for
publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively
present information to administration, public groups, and/or the School Board. Fluent in English.
ESL endorsement would be beneficial.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure,
using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate,
ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING
ABILITY
Ability to solve
practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
