SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Database Assists the district in the planning, development, maintenance and management of local and wide area networks.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.  Regular attendance and timeliness is an essential job function to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

 

Maintains and troubleshoots integrated learning system (ILS) labs.

 

Designs, installs, and maintains each local area network within the district.

 

Designs, installs, and maintains the district’s wide area network.

 

Develops and maintains written documentation and schematics for each local area  network and the wide area network.  Documentation should include detailed NDS information, topologies, writing schematics, active protocols, and IP addressing scheme.

 

Designs and implements a backup procedure or program for all district file servers.

 

Provides Internet connectivity where appropriate.

 

Provides network security including the implementation of “firewalls” where needed.

 

Assures productive and efficient use of district technicians through prioritization of work assignments and monitoring of work performed.

 

Provides aid in developing detailed specifications for computer equipment to be purchased.

 

Helps in the evaluation of vendor proposals, products, and performance.

 

Establishes a system to track equipment warranties and assure that repairs are made under warranty if qualified.

 

Maintains district-wide servers.

 

Assists with the installation and configuration of networked software.

 

Develops and tracks an inventory of frequently needed replacement parts for computers and peripherals.

 

Assists in the preparation of technology budgets.

 

Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Technical understanding and experience with LAN and WAN technology including  operating systems, security, NDS (Netware Directory Services), Internet connectivity, protocols, IP addressing, topologies, wiring specifications, CSU/DSU’s, routers and peripherals.

 

Demonstrated ability to organize and work effectively with other people.

 

Technical understanding and experience with operating systems including DOS, Windows 3.x., Windows 95, Windows NT, and Mac OS.

 

Familiarity with a broad spectrum of commercial productivity software to include work processing, spreadsheets, database and desk top publishing.

 

Skill with computer and network diagnostic utilities and problem analysis.

 

Knowledge and experience with network security and firewalls.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree (computer related field) or 5 years of experience in a computer field a closely related field of technology or a combination of both education and experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Hold and maintain a valid Utah driver’s license.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak and communicate effectively before individuals or groups of teachers, principals, or other employees of District. Ability to communicate effectively and help others.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Ability and experience in maintaining, repairing and building PC/Mac computers   and peripheral devices.

 

Demonstrated ability to set and meet timelines.

 

Ability to communicate effectively and help others.
