SUMMARY
Directs, coordinates, and oversees the fine arts program K-12 for Washington County School District. Program areas include visual arts, theater, instrumental and vocal music, and dance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Regular attendance and timeliness is an essential job function to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
Supervises individual school fine arts teachers in teaching state arts core curriculum and coordinates school, cone site, and district wide activities in achieving state, district, and school goals in the fine arts.
Counsels with and mediates for classroom fine arts teachers.
Coordinates teacher training and in-service.
Prepares budget, monitors expenses and solicits funds, including grants, to provide financial support for state, district and individual school fine arts programs, including, but not limited to, the Beverley Taylor Sorenson (BTS) Grant and Utah State Office of Education (USOE) grants.
Monitors arts needs assessments and prioritizes budgets.
Represents district on State Fine Arts Committee.
Plans and supervise monthly District Fine Arts Committee Meetings.
Represents district fine arts programs on St George City Arts Council.
Coordinates fine arts activities in schools that are presented to schools from outside sources; Celebrity Concert Series, St George Musical Theater, Shakespearian Theater, A.R.T.S. Inc., POPS, and other professional and amateur organization that desire to present in schools.
Prepares and coordinates district fine arts activities calendar.
Coordinates district and cone site visual arts shows, music festival, concerts and clinics, dance festival and clinics, and theater productions.
Coordinates the purchase and maintenance of fine arts programs equipment through priorities process and advises on construction of new and remodeled facilities where arts instruction will take place.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree preferred or Bachelor’s Degree from four year college or university and prior classroom instruction experience preferred in both secondary and elementary levels.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Active Utah Teaching License required. Active Utah Administrative/Supervisory (K-12) License preferred. Membership in and leadership experience shown in professional arts groups expected.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires from administrators, patrons, and colleagues. Ability to understand the language of grant writing and composition and reporting of grants.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, etc. Ability to apply basic accounting and budget principles.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to travel. Regular visits to the schools are a must and attendance at many meetings out of the area is required. The employee must regularly lift and/or move heavy instruments and equipment used in the fine arts programs. Many times this will be over 100lbs. Lifting and strenuous movement are part of staging concerts and theater productions, art shows, and music festivals of all kinds.
