SUMMARY 

   A.     Works under the direction of Title I.

   B.     Works with the principle of the school where the center is located.

   C.     Assists the parents of that school and other schools in the cone site to help insure the success of their children in school.

   D.     Works with parents of preschool children that visit the center to help prepare their children for school.

   E.      Conducts parental involvement activities.

   F.      Should be well groomed, professional and mature in behavior, and willing to accept responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Interacts in a positive and professional manner with patrons.

Operates the circulation desk.

Assists parents, students and faculty in locating and choosing library items.

Cleans and repairs library items.

Shelves library items.

Offers help and support to teachers.

Contacts patrons with overdue items.

Provides tours of the center when called upon for:

       Classes within the school

       Head Start Parents

       Kindergarten Round-up Parents

Maintains order and a pleasant atmosphere in the center.

Catalogs new items.

Holds classes as required in the center.

Is responsible for the day to day operation of the center.

Attends and promotes the family center at school functions that involve parents such as:

     Back to school night.

     Math and/or literacy nights.

Performs other responsibilities as may be assigned by Title I supervisors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or completed at least 48 semester hours of study at an institution of higher education; or passing results (460) on Paraprofessional Assessment.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or teachers.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision.
