SUMMARY
Directs, coordinates,
and oversees the
Washington County School District Secondary (intermediate, middle, and high school)
education programs. Program areas include curriculum design, course offerings,
graduation advancement, program evaluation, professional learning communities,
principal training and oversight, staff development and collaboration, PTSA
programs, youth in custody,
media coordination, and crisis intervention.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned. Regular attendance and
timeliness is an essential job function to perform the essential duties and
responsibilities of the position.
Provides
leadership and central total support for the planning, evaluation, improvement,
and implementation of the secondary instructional program; assists local
district staff in developing goals, plans, and commitments for secondary
instruction that ensure that students achieve high academic standards.
Oversees
and directs the activities of the secondary instructional staff assigned to the
office in the identification and interpretation of needs and the establishment
of priorities related to the secondary instructional program, and in the
development and implementation of programs and activities designed to meet such
needs and priorities.
Provides leadership and central tactical support for
the planning, evaluation, and improvement of the school operations program and
staff.
Provides tactical support to the district in
overseeing and monitoring compliance with state and federal and other mandated
programs and policies, as these relate to both secondary general and special
education.
Ensures
the establishment and maintenance of communication with local district staff,
parents, and the community regarding secondary education; promotes
collaboration among stakeholders and increased accountability for results.
Plans
and carries out a district wide program of curriculum review and development
for the secondary programs.
Leads
in the evaluation of secondary instruction methods and programs and recommends
such changes and improvements as needed.
Develops an effective, district wide program of secondary
supervision and administration.
Integrates
instructional programs among secondary schools and articulates curricula
between secondary grade levels, and between the elementary schools and secondary
schools.
Assists principals in the planning and implementation
of effective programs of supervision and evaluation.
Assists principals in the planning and implementation
of effective programs.
Directs
and oversees recruiting, interviewing, screening, and recommending of qualified
candidates for administrative positions.
Provides guidance in the selection and use of
textbooks and other teaching materials.
Works with administration in the preparation of
curriculum and materials.
Engages in an ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness
of the instructional program.
Initiates
and maintains effective liaison with state and other school districts in order
to keep abreast of new educational developments and ideas.
Keeps
current with educational developments and secondary education programs and
participates in the affairs of state and national professional societies
devoted to the advancement of secondary education programs.
Trains principals and school administration.
Evaluates assigned programs to ensure that
objectives for student education are met.
Interprets applicable laws, rules, and
regulations for administration and staff.
Prepares
budget, monitors expenditures, and solicits funds to provide financial support
for programs.
Participates in the selection of secondary
school administrators and related service personnel within the District. Provides
supervision to secondary school principals.
Administers the District Gifted and Talented,
Provides Leadership in the philosophy,
curriculum, and methods of the assigned programs. Administers and coordinates activities of
Senior Options, Textbook Adoption, SUU Master's
Advising Committee for State Curriculum, Accreditation Committee, and other
advising committees.
Coordinates
and supervises District adult education programs at
Coordinates
and provides overall management to Youth-in-Custody, Reach, Crisis Center and
Directed Study Programs and related services in the
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE
Master's
degree (M. A.) or equivalent with a minimum of ten years related administrative
experience and/or training.
CERTIFICATES,
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
This
position requires a Utah Administrative/Supervisory License.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS
Ability
to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals,
financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from
customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write speeches and articles for
publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to
principals, teachers, public groups, state and local agencies, and/or
School Boards.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to such
tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and
validity, etc.
Ability to apply basic accounting and budget principles.
REASONING
ABILITY
Ability
to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and
draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive
variety of technical instructions in written or diagram form and deal with
several abstract and concrete variables.
