SUMMARY

Directs, coordinates, and oversees the Washington County School District Elementary (K-6th grade) education programs. Program areas include: curriculum design, character education, early childhood development, reading excellence, Nursing, Title 1, At Risk, student advancement, attendance, and discipline.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Formulates policies and procedures for new or revised programs or activities such as screening, placement, education, and training of students.

 

Trains principals, teachers, and support staff.

 

Evaluates assigned programs to ensure that objectives for student education are met.

 

Interprets applicable laws, rules, and regulations for students, parents, and staff.

 

Prepares budget, monitors expenditures, and solicits funds to provide financial support for programs.

 

Administers the preparation of reports for federal, state, and local regulatory agencies to include enrollment reports and projections.

 

Contracts with agencies for needed services.

 

Administers Title 1, block grant, federal class size, and other related special funding programs.

 

Participates in the selection of elementary school administrators and related service personnel within the District. Provides general supervision to elementary school principals.

 

Coordinates and provides overall management to gifted and talented, art, ESL, math, social studies, staff development, Interns, Healthy Human Development, and science curriculum programs and related services in the School District.

 

Coordinates and directs District elementary school extra-curricular activities.

 

Coordinates and supervises District substitute teacher program.

 

Provides Leadership in the philosophy, curriculum, and methods of the assigned programs. 

 

Coordinates activities of Zion View PTA, At-Risk, Safe and Drug Free Schools, SUU NCATE Review Committee, and other advising committees.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position supervises the Elementary Education staff throughout the District.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent with a minimum of ten years related administrative experience and/or training

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

This position requires a Utah Administrative/Supervisory License.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to principals, teachers, public groups,  state and local agencies, and/or School Boards.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical concepts to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, etc. Ability to apply basic accounting and budget principles.

                              

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in written or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
